Alcohol & Drug Policies

Florida State University seeks to encourage and sustain an academic environment that both respects individual freedom and promotes the health, safety, and welfare of all members of its community.


Alcohol Policy & Regulations

In keeping with our commitment to campus welfare, the University has established strict guidelines governing the possession, sale, and consumption of alcoholic beverages on campus in full conformity with Florida state laws.

Core Restrictions:

  • Underage Consumption: Underage possession and/or consumption of alcoholic beverages is strictly prohibited on property owned or controlled by the University.

  • Distribution: Selling, providing, or serving alcoholic beverages to persons under the age of 21 is not permitted under any circumstances.

  • Enforcement: Violations of Florida law regarding the sale, possession, or consumption of alcohol by minors are handled seriously. Offenders will be dealt with both through the criminal courts and through the University's Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities.


Illegal Drug Policy

FSU, consistent with its educational mission, does not condone the possession, sale, or use of illegal drugs as defined by federal or state law.

Core Restrictions:

  • Enforcement: Narcotic and dangerous drug laws are vigorously enforced on campus by the University Police Department.

  • Sanctions: Students found involved in illegal drug trafficking, sale, possession, or use are subject to immediate criminal prosecution.

  • Academic Discipline: In addition to legal consequences, individual violations will result in university administrative sanctions up to and including permanent expulsion from Florida State University.
