Tai Chin (she/ her):
- I first got introduced to Computer Science through Python coding and ever since Freshman year I have gained several certifications in the field. I am interested in Microcomputers, electronics, and computer programs. I enjoy creating computer programs either with Visual Studio code or messing around with an Arduino. After I finish University, I want to become a Computer Programmer or a Computer Engineer.
Spencer Tuttle (he/him):
- My first experience in the Computer Science field was a Python coding class for The Collegiate School. Since then, I have had an interest in software development, mostly in games. After college, I aim to go into the field of game development.
Poster Title Opinions Surrounding the Integration of Assistive A.I. into Daily Activities
Abstract Artificial intelligence (A.I.) is not a new concept, however recently it has gained large amounts of attention and implementation in everyday tasks. First created around the 1950s and improved upon since then, A.I. is being implemented everywhere. The use of AI has grown through each generation, with the 1990-2000s generations seeing the most change. Some older examples of assistive AI are things like Clippy and Text to speech software, with more common examples including spell checkers, assistants like Siri or Alexa, search engine algorithms, recommendations on social media, and face recognition software. With the prominence of A.I. in modern technologies, this paper serves to create a literature review of the academic and public controversies as well as public opinions surrounding AI. More specifically, we aim to use existing surveys to try and analyze patterns that might arise with people’s opinions, or lack thereof, regarding assistive A.I. This will include the types and eras of AI, analyzing when and what types of Intelligences were accepted. Our findings will show how different eras or advancements in AI shifted public perception of it. In the future, we aim to support the data we find with a small-scale survey conducted at Florida State University Panama City.
