Poster Title: The Effects of Low-Cost Design and Marketing of Products on Overconsumption Rates. Abstract: Overcompensation rates have been on a massive incline since the beginning of 2000 and the introduction of fast-paced consumerism. The continuous process of constantly replacing and reproducing products created to deteriorate overtime leaves a trail of excessive production, waste, environmental degradation, and escalating in the current climate crisis. Planned obsolescence is the deliberate scheme of manufacturing a product made to decay at an accelerated rate over time in order to encourage replacement. This low-cost marketing tactic is a key device in growing over consumption rates especially in America, leading to environmental damages.
