Award-winning author Rivers to speak at Black History Month lecture
More than 300 K-12 and college students will attend FSU Panama City’s Black History Month presentation with keynote speaker Dr. Larry Rivers from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, in the Holley Lecture Hall.
Rivers is the distinguished professor of history at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee. His books, “Slavery in Florida” and “Rebels and Runaways,” have captured national book awards, and he has co‑authored or co-edited several other important works. His most recent co-authored book, “Mary Bryan: Her Early Life and Works,” was published in 2015 by the University Press of Florida.
Rivers’ teaching, research, writing and community service have earned acclaim and recognition for excellence. Georgia Trend magazine named him in January 2008 among the “100 Most Influential Georgians.”
The event also will include performances by the Nu Gulf Coast Choir and singer DeDrinique Barnes.
