FSU PC’s Laura Damren receives Outstanding Undergraduate Advising Award
Laura Damren, an academic advisor for FSU Panama City, received the Florida State University Outstanding Undergraduate Advising Award this week.
The recognition was “deeply meaningful” to Damren, she said, because it affirms the values that guide her work every day.
“Advising is not simply about course selection or degree requirements. It’s walking alongside students during one of the most formative and, at times, uncertain periods of their lives,” she said.
The award is based on nominations submitted by students who have been beneficiaries of advisory services. It is a recognition of an advisor’s dedication to ensuring that students receive the best possible guidance related to their courses and their career choices. The recipient also receives $2,000.
For many of the students Damren advises, choosing to return to school is not a casual decision.
“They are often well established in another field and must thoughtfully weigh this commitment alongside family responsibilities, financial considerations, and long term career goals,” she said. “Students deserve clear information, honest guidance, and a partner who is committed to their success.”
She added that the award represents her dedication to empowering students to make informed decisions, advocating for their goals, and creating a supportive space where they feel seen, capable, and confident in their academic journey.
Originally from Jacksonville, Damren received her bachelor of science in Physical Science from FSU in 2020 and joined FSU PC as an academic advisor in 2023. In 2024, she earned a master’s degree in public administration, which she said would help her to better serve students.
“I am passionate about education being a lifelong process,” she said. “There is a culture of personal and professional growth that draws everyone into this preeminent university. … I am very grateful for the opportunity to help guide and support students on their educational journey.”
