Dr. Nasima Khatun is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Department of Financial Planning at Florida State University. She earned her Ph.D. and M.S. in Personal Financial Planning from Texas Tech University, and her BBA and MBA in Finance from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Her research centers on financial literacy, financial well-being, retirement savings, and the impact of natural disasters on insurance markets. She specializes in advanced econometric and machine learning methods, including Bayesian modeling, multilevel regression, and structural equation modeling, to examine how financial knowledge, skills, and external shocks shape household financial outcomes. Dr. Khatun’s work has been published in journals such as the American Journal of Economics and Sociology and Econometrics and presented at leading conferences including the American Council on Consumer Interests (ACCI), the CFP Board Academic Research Colloquium, and the Financial Management Association (FMA).
Beyond research, Dr. Khatun is deeply committed to teaching and outreach. She has more than a decade of experience teaching finance and financial planning courses across multiple institutions and has served as a financial educator in community outreach programs, providing unbiased financial education to underrepresented populations. She also serves as a reviewer for several leading journals, including the American Council on Consumer Interests, Financial Planning Review, and the Journal of Financial Counseling and Planning, as well as for the Pro bono Financial Planning Curriculum. Dr. Khatun is an active member of professional associations including ACCI, AFCPE, and FMA.
