Registrar Jim Allen joins Honorary Commanders program

Jim Allen, campus registrar and director of Academic Services for the College of Applied Studies, was formally inducted recently to serve in the Honorary Commanders program with the 1st Air Force (Air Forces Northern) National Security Emergency Preparedness directorate, headquartered at Tyndall Air Force Base.

A U.S. Navy veteran and longtime advocate for the local military community, Allen also serves at FSU Panama City as liaison with the Student Veterans Center. A 2020 graduate of the FSU Advanced Leadership Development Program, he places an emphasis on fostering leadership among colleagues, while maintaining a high level of accessibility and responsiveness to students' academic and career readiness needs.  

"I am grateful for this unique opportunity to strengthen the partnership between Tyndall AFB and our local Bay County community while learning more about the outstanding airmen and mission that make Tyndall Air Force Base such a vital part of our nation’s defense," Allen said.

The NSEP organizes Emergency Preparedness Liaison Officers (EPLOs) to manage domestic disaster response, special security events and homeland defense, bridging the gap between the military and civil authority during national crises. These initiatives build cooperative local partnerships, foster mutual understanding of national security and emergency readiness missions, and help community influencers share the defense mission story locally.

"As a good neighbor, Tyndall Air Force Base is committed to developing, promoting and maintaining positive and productive relationships with key community leaders in the surrounding area," according to a post on the base's web page about the Honorary Commanders Program. "This program's objective is to provide these community leaders with greater exposure to the Checkertail missions and a closer look at the Air Force role in supporting national defense."
