HISPANIC HERITAGE CELEBRATION SLATED FOR SEPT. 22

Florida State University Panama City will kick off its annual Hispanic Heritage Month events on Tuesday, Sept. 22, with food trucks, a musical performance and keynote speaker Shirley Parrado.

The celebration is “Unidos, somos mas,” or “Together, we are more.” The event will be from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the Holley Academic Center, 4750 Collegiate Drive, Panama City. Admission is free and open to the public.

Parrado, the executive director of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce, is known as a dynamic community leader and an advocate for economic growth, education and civic engagement. Prior to joining the Washington Chamber, Parrado served on the City of Bradenton’s Community Redevelopment Agency and contributed to committees aligned with the Manatee Chamber of Commerce and Manatee Memorial Hospital. 

The musical performance will feature the “Sandbox Singers.” In addition, FSU Panama City student Jerimaya Pena will speak on the topic, “What does it mean to be Latino?”
