FLORIDA STATE UNIVERSITY PANAMA CITY CELEBRATES FIRST-GENERATION WEEK

Maiya Johnson

Florida State University recognizes first-generation students Nov. 4-8 during FGEN Week, a weeklong celebration to raise awareness about the experiences of first-generation college students and provide educational opportunities for FSU faculty, staff, students and alumni. The events align with the annual First-Generation College Celebration, held nationally every November.

The National First-Generation College Celebration recognizes the signing of the Higher Education Act that created federal financial aid programs to fund students’ education, especially assisting first-generation students. FSU’s Center for Academic Retention and Enhancement (CARE) is joining in on this national event to acknowledge the dedication and experiences of first-generation students at FSU’s Tallahassee and Panama City campuses.
