Book co-edited by FSU PC professor Cvornyek named Outstanding Academic Title

A book co-edited by FSU Panama City professor Robert Cvornyek was chosen as a 2025 Choice Outstanding Academic Title. Published by the University of Nebraska Press, “Race and Resistance in Boston: A Contested Sports History” is a collection of 15 essays exploring the long history of Black sporting culture in the city.

Cvornyek is professor emeritus of history at Rhode Island College who teaches Interdisciplinary Social Science at FSU Panama City. He is the author of “Black Grays and Colored Giants: A Comprehensive Guide to Black Baseball in Rhode Island, 1870–1949.” His co-editor, Douglas Stark, is a museum consultant and sports historian who wrote “The James Naismith Reader: Basketball in His Own Words.”
