What is the FSU Panama City Torchbearer Program?

The Torchbearers Program is one that consists of a distinguished group of student leaders who are representing the academic and student perspectives of FSU Panama City. The Torchbearers exemplify outstanding achievement in the classroom, involvement on campus and within the community, and participation in student life and activities. Torchbearers interact and engage with prospective students in the community to gain critical leadership skill.

A Torchbearer is a student who has a passion for the institution, has a willingness to learn more about it, and is excited to promote and communicate the amazing opportunities at FSU Panama City. The position of a Torchbearer is one of high regard within the university and an opportunity for professional and personal growth. Torchbearers should strive to be role models within the University and community. An FSU Panama City Torchbearer is a student who is dedicated to aiding and assisting future students, first-time in college freshmen, families, current members of the FSU Panama City community, and Alumni representatives.

What are the requirements? 

  • Completed application
  • Letter of recommendation 
  • Be an FSU Panama City Student for AT LEAST one semester before time of service
  • Be in good academic and disciplinary standings (minimum 3.0 GPA)
  • Have two semesters remaining at FSU Panama City before graduation
  • Demonstrate strong public speaking & interpersonal skills
  • Have a flexible schedule and be willing to assist during evening and weekend events
  • Other qualifications may be considered
  • After the application due date(Nov. 19th), applications are reviewed for eligibility. If anything is missing (that is not already exempted), your application will be removed from the process. 
  • Names are removed from applications during committee review.
  • Committee reviews and grades applications with an appropriate score based on the following:
  • Applications with high scores in the above areas are selected for the interview process beginning on November 30th.

What are some of the responsibilities? 

  • Assist Enrollment Management (Admissions/Recruitment), Deans Office, Advancement, and Student Affairs
  • Attend University Torchbearer assisted events
  • Serve as University hosts to prospective and future students and families.
  • Develop and share expanded knowledge of FSU Panama City
  • Work with the school population and provide tips on being a successful student
  • Maintain workspace appearance and professionalism
  • Possess a willingness to work in groups or individually in problem solving and decision-making reach goals and objectives put forth by your supervisor, Mia Bennett.
  • Attend the required monthly Student Torchbearer meeting.

  • Please Note: Incomplete applications will not be considered. All recommendation letters and resume’s must be submitted with your application. No late materials will be accepted. After the application due date(Nov. 19th), applications are reviewed for eligibility. If anything is missing (that is not already exempted), your application will be removed from the process. 
  • Names are removed from applications during committee review.
  • Committee reviews and grades applications with an appropriate score based on the following:
  • Time/Effort – Candidate took time to follow directions, information is organized, professional, and all resumes are included.
  • Complete - Application was complete; each section is filled out with info or N/A.
  •  Content – Responses to questions are thought out and complete with proper spelling and grammar. Student appears to be interested in this experience and has demonstrated a desire to be a Torchbearer and a willingness to grow and learn. 
    • Applications with high scores in the above areas are selected for the interview process beginning on November 30th.
