Distinguished speaker to present solutions for problem behaviors
Gregory Hanley, Ph.D., BCBA-D, will present “Meaningful Solutions for Problem Behavior Associated with Autism” as part of FSU Panama City’s Distinguished Lecture Series at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 29, at FSU Panama City’s Holley Lecture Hall.
In the one-hour presentation, Hanley will offer a solution for addressing problem behavior of people with autism. The process involves quickly and safely understanding the factors motivating these problem behaviors and using this information to develop a particular social skills repertoire under the same conditions in which problem behavior was learned.
Hanley has been applying the principles of learning to improve socially important behaviors of children and adults with and without disabilities for more than 25 years. He worked and trained at the Groden Center and the Kennedy Krieger Institute. He earned his Ph.D. in psychology in 2001 at the University of Florida and was tenured at the University of Kansas. He is a professor of psychology and director of the Behavior Analysis Doctoral Program and the Life Skills Clinic at Western New England University and an adjunct professor of psychiatry at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.
Hanley has published more than 100 chapters and articles in peer-reviewed journals in areas such as the assessment, treatment and prevention of problem behavior and evidence-based values. He is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association (Division 25), a past associate editor of The Behavior Analyst, past editor of Behavior Analysis in Practice and current editor of the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis.
The event is free and open to the public. One BACB CEU will be provided by ECABA for $10.
