Garnet Key Honor Society Spring Induction Ceremony

Erica Martin

Twenty-three students were inducted into the Garnet Key Honor Society (GKHS) during a ceremony held April 4. Students eligible for membership demonstrate exemplary character, active community involvement and high academic standards. They are representative of Florida State’s commitment to strength, skill and character.

Established on the Panama City campus in 1986, GKHS is a branch of FSU Tallahassee’s Golden Key International Honour Society. Garnet Key recognizes students who have completed at least 15 credit hours in a degree program at either the graduate or undergraduate level and have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above.

By working with local community service organizations, members of Garnet Key increase their leadership skills, explore community connections and gain a deeper understanding of community service by adopting a project each year that works directly with a local community organization.

This year’s Garnet Key Honor Society members will participate in a multicultural literacy project that will include collecting and donating books on diversity for children at all ages from kindergarten to high schools who are patients in pediatrics wings at local hospitals and hospices.

These community service activities help create a well-rounded academic experience that assists the student well beyond graduation.
