VanDyke to be honored by American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology

Dr. Stacey VanDyke, director and assistant teaching professor for the Florida State University Panama City Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice program, is among 58 distinguished leaders in her profession named as candidates to be inducted into the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology's 2023 Class of Fellows.

The inductees will be recognized for their significant contributions to the profession at the AANA Annual Congress, Aug. 18-22 in Seattle, Washington 

"Earning the Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology (FAANA) designation is a major career achievement that reflects years of dedication and a commitment to pursuing excellence in every endeavor," said Wilma Gillis, Fellows Selection Committee chairwoman, in a press release. "This is a proud moment for AANA and the AANA Foundation, as well as each Fellow and the profession of nurse anesthesiology."

Before joining the faculty at Florida State University Panama City in May 2016, VanDyke was director of the Nurse Anesthesia Clinical Residency Training Program at Eglin Hospital. She earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2013. 
“Dr. VanDyke has proven herself as a distinguished educator,” Dean Randy Hanna said at the time. “Throughout her nursing and military career, she has demonstrated strong leadership and organizational skills that are a great asset to our nurse anesthesia students.”

VanDyke, DNP, CRNA, joined the U.S. Air Force in 1996, and worked as a clinician and educator both nationally and abroad. In 2009, she served in Balad, Iraq, leading eight anesthesia providers, training Special Forces medics in advanced airway techniques and providing trauma care to more than 250 patients. 

Upon receiving her master’s in nursing from the Uniformed Services University in 2006, she was the recipient of the Agatha Hodgins’ award, the highest honor bestowed on a graduating nurse anesthesia student. She earned her bachelor’s in nursing from Jacksonville State University in 1994. 
She began as an adjunct instructor at FSU PC in May 2016, retiring as a lieutenant colonel from the U.S. Air Force that fall.
More than 170 Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs), who are experts in policy, research, administration, practice and academia, as well as champions of health and wellness, have the distinction of being Fellows of the AANA. Applications are selected through a competitive, rigorous process. Each Fellow has at least 10 years of professional experience as a practitioner of nurse anesthesia, educator, facility leader or business leader.
