Florida State University Panama City will host guest speaker retired Major General Robert N. Polumbo of the United States Air Force at 1 p.m. November 9 in the Holley Academic Center, 4750 Collegiate Drive, as part of the Illumination series honoring Veterans Day.

The Illumination, Shedding Light on Diversity initiative highlights diversity, equity and inclusion through a series of guest speakers with a variety of different viewpoints meant to engage the community in meaningful conversations and educational opportunities. All Illumination events are free and open to the public.

Polumbo is a veteran of the United States Air Force who retired in 2017 after 33 years of service. He is a command pilot with more than 4,300 hours of military aviation in all blocks of the F-16 and logged more than 9,900 flying hours in the Boeing 727, 757, 767 and 777 aircraft during his 23-year career with American Airlines and author of “Leadership From 30,000 Feet.”

“The Illumination Series provides a great opportunity for our veterans, both on-campus and beyond, to engage in meaningful discussions and opportunities that broaden their individual worldviews,” said director of academic services and liaison for the Student Veterans Center, Jim Allen. “Anytime FSU Panama City can bring our student veterans and the campus community together to honor Veterans Day, while also celebrating diverse cultures, is a wonderful opportunity.”

Polumbo is currently senior consultant with Two Blue Aces and senior executive on the South Florida Defense Alliance. He is a distinguished graduate from the U.S. Air Force Academy and has served as the Assistant to the Commander, Air Force Reserve Command, as commander of a fighter squadron and was the aide to the Air Force Chief of Staff and advisor to numerous commands.

Copies of Polumbo’s book, “Leadership From 30,000 Feet,” will be available for book signing during the event.

This event is open to the community both in person and virtually via Zoom at https://fsu.zoom.us/j/91207056466
