FSU Panama City renames FSU PC Golf Invitational in honor of Coach Bobby Bowden

Florida State University Panama City announced today the renaming of the FSU Panama City Golf Invitational in recognition of late FSU football Coach Bobby Bowden during a presentation during the 30th annual golf tournament at the Bay Point Golf Club.

The tournament is being renamed the Florida State University Panama City Bobby Bowden Invitational in honor of Bowden for his unwavering support of FSU PC, nearly 30 years of participation in the annual golf tournament and the legacy he has left on the Panama City community. 

The new golf tournament name will take effect in 2022. 

Mickey Andrews, former FSU football defensive coordinator and assistant coach, spoke at the presentation. Former FSU football players at Friday’s FSU PC Golf Invitational included:

  • Roberto Aguayo, FSU kicker 
  • Ricky Aguayo, FSU kicker
  • Jason Whitaker, FSU offensive lineman, Consensus All American 
  • Tom Wheeler, FSU tight end 
  • Bill Rhodes, FSU defensive lineman

Celebrity golfers in attendance also included former FSU Seminoles baseball players Greg Jones and shortstop Don DeLoach; and FSU softball volunteer coach Kaleigh Rafter. Rafter, who recently was named the head coach of the Canadian Softball National Team, won a bronze medal with Canada at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. 

About 160 golfers played Friday to support FSU Panama City, and about 50 area businesses and organizations stepped up to support the tournament through various sponsorships.
