FSU Panama City cancels classes as a precautionary action due to Hurricane Ian

Florida State University and Florida State University Panama City are actively monitoring Hurricane Ian and taking preliminary precautionary protective actions to prepare the campuses for possible impacts of severe weather. FSU has decided to cancel all classes beginning at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 27 through all day Friday, September 30 to allow students to travel safely out of the area if they so choose.

Florida State University Panama City campus services and offices will continue through Wednesday, September 28, including the Notable ‘Nole luncheon for alumni scheduled on Tuesday. All student planned homecoming events have been cancelled.

Official information and instructions will be communicated via the FSU Alert system, the campus website pc.fsu.edu, social media, email and on alerts.fsu.edu as soon as they become available. Students and community members should continue to check these sources regularly for updates along with the latest weather information from the National Weather Service or other official weather sources.

The Dean will provide guidance to faculty and staff. As the University will continue to provide services to our students, staff should consult with their supervisors to determine their department’s needs. A communication will follow from the Office of Human Resources regarding an accelerated time entry and payroll processing schedule, and guidance for employees designated as essential personnel.

FSU PC is prepared to support students throughout the storm. On-campus, Seminole Landing, will remain open for current residents. Students who choose to stay on-campus should continually monitor appropriate channels for the most up to date information and instructions.

If there is an evacuation order, students will have to leave Seminole Landing.

Students are encouraged to discuss their possible travel plans with family and friends and to confirm that their emergency contact information is up to date in their myFSU portal. Students from FSU PC and their families can call the FSU PC Promise information number 24/7 at (850) 832-5649 for academic guidance or questions.

All classes and normal business operations are expected to resume on Saturday, Oct. 1.

Please review the FSU Emergency Preparedness Guide as you prepare for possible severe weather.
