FSU Panama City Welcomes First Freshman Class

Monday, August 26, 2013 FSU Panama City welcomed its first class of freshmen students to campus.

From 760 freshman applications submitted to FSU Panama City for the fall 2013 semester; 50 applicants from Bay and surrounding counties to states as far away as Ohio, Virginia, Tennessee and South Florida are now officially Seminoles.

These freshmen have an impressive profile. Their average GPA and ACT scores are 3.93 and 26.2. Only 17% of the nation’s high school students who took the ACT scored higher than 26. All but four students have declared a major, most in the academic fields of engineering, business administration, psychology and computer science.

“It is exciting to have freshman on the campus of FSU Panama City,” said campus Dean Ken Shaw. “This is an historic moment for FSU. In route to the Freshmen Convocation Ceremony on Sunday at the main campus, we asked our freshmen trivia questions and I was pleased with how much they knew. The freshmen class has nearly a high school grade point average of 4.0. They are all high achievers and desire so much from their FSU experience. We are pleased to provide an opportunity for students in the southeast to obtain a tier-one university degree at one of the most beautiful campuses in the United States.”

“It is hard to know who is more excited about freshmen being on our campus this fall—us or them,” said Melissa Conner, Director of Admissions. “It has been a sincere pleasure meeting them and their families as we have gone through several cycles of orientations to prepare them for their first semester here. The students are eager and the family members have been so very supportive. This is going to be a great semester.”

The first week of classes entitled Seminole Sensation Week, was commemorated with free food, fun and music.
