FSU Panama City names interim nurse anesthesia program administrator

Florida State University Panama City has named Ryan Shores, DNP, CRNA, as interim program administrator for the Master of Science in Nurse Anesthesia.

Shores is an assistant professor at the University of North Florida, where he began as adjunct faculty in 2008. He also has been a staff nurse anesthetist and clinical preceptor at University of Florida Jacksonville Healthcare Inc. since 2007. He began his career in health care as a registered nurse at UF’s Shands Hospital in Gainesville in 2002.

Shores earned his Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from the University of North Florida. He holds a master’s degree in nursing anesthesia from Florida International University and an associate’s degree in nursing from Santa Fe Community College. He also earned a bachelor’s degree in communication studies from the University of Florida in 1995.

Lindsay Tranum, MSNA, CRNA; Britton Turner, DNP, CRNA; and Stacey A. Vandyke, DNP, CRNA, also will serve as new adjunct faculty members for summer term.

The search for a permanent program administrator is ongoing, with advertisements being posted within the university HR system, in national CRNA publications Gasworks and Indeed, and in the Chronicle of Higher Education. A search committee is currently being formed, and a new program administrator is expected to be appointed by the beginning of the fall 2016 term.

The program also is working to expand available sites for clinical education experiences. New or expanded affiliation agreements are under review with Jackson Hospital in Mariana, Panama City Surgery Center, the Eye Center of North Florida, the Oral Surgery & Dental Implant Center of Panama City, and Sacred Heart on the Gulf hospital in Port St. Joe.

Students also soon will be able to practice specialty procedures on campus through simulation. A new Sim Lab will house more than $100,000 in specialized equipment including multiple AirSim units, Gen II Central Line models, Central Line kits, and lumbar puncture simulators with and without ultrasound. Purchase orders were initiated Friday for these rush items.
