FSU PANAMA CITY TO HOST AN EVENING WITH AUTHOR TIMOTHY C. FINLEY
How much would you sacrifice for a chance to fit in? Could you learn to live with your greatest fears if it meant having a normal life?
These are some of the questions posed by “Kinth,” the debut novel of Timothy C. Finley, who will appear for “An Evening with the Author” 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, in Florida State University Panama City’s Holley Center, 4750 Collegiate Drive. The event will feature a reception and is free and open to the community. The first 50 attendees will receive a copy of the novel.

“Kinth” is a dystopian adventure novel that explores the themes of mystery, living with anxiety, and the search for belonging. Published in 2024, with a sequel slated for later this year, “Kinth” tells the story of Frederick, a boy with crippling anxiety due to a horrific pandemic. His only hope for recovery and a normal life is a special educational program at Kinth. Unfortunately, enrollment may cost him everything. There’s something strange going on at Kinth, something lurking in the shadows that Fredrick and his newfound friends have seen only in their nightmares.
A resident of Kansas City, Missouri, Finley has well-established familial ties to Panama City., He has spent a few weeks a year in Panama City for as long as he can remember.
A lifelong lover of literature, Finley seeks to provide readers with the sense of belonging he experienced when reading novels as a youth. Finley also draws on his personal experience with anxiety and struggling to find purpose in his writing, both of which are important themes in “Kinth.”

“The message I want readers to take away from ‘Kinth’ is that no matter how isolated you feel, no matter how anxious or depressed, there are people out there for you.” Finley said. “People going through the same things, people who will understand you, and people with whom you belong. Anxiety and depression make those things feel impossible, but that is a lie.”
