With an audience of family and friends looking on, about 50 first-year students participated in the annual FSU PC Convocation ceremony and reception on Sunday, Aug. 27. As part of the event, students were helped into their academic robes, recited the Seminole Creed and signed the Seminole Family book. The ceremony was streamed live via the FSU PC channel on YouTube.

The formal Freshman Convocation marks the entrance into the life and traditions of Florida State University and extends the support of the university community to its newest members. Speakers included Student Government Council President Ronan Nana and keynote address by Associate Teaching Professor Wendy Ritz, DBA.

“Convocation welcomes freshmen to the Florida State family and the university experience,” said FSU Panama City Dean Randy Hanna, who presided over the ceremony. “The college experience is one that allows students to explore their interests and reach their potential. It shapes a person into his or her future self and provides a pathway to a successful career.”

The event capped off Welcome Week, which included move-in days at Seminole Landing residential hall on campus, breakfast with the Dean,  a day of paddle boards and kayaks on North Bay by the campus pier and a garden party. It also ushered in the start of classes on Monday, and Club Rush in the Holley Academic Center.

Last week, faculty and staff enjoyed a reception welcoming new faculty and adjuncts and honoring  retirees. A Welcome Back  campus luncheon was held the following day and featured staff awards, a keynote speaker and the Dean’s address for  returning and new members of the campus community.
