Autism Parent Resource Center opening at FSU ECAP

Florida State University Panama City will celebrate the completion of the Parent Resource Center at the FSU Early Childhood Autism Program (ECAP) in FSU Panama City’s Technology Building. The celebration at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27, will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony in honor of the new space that will provide information and resources to parents with questions about autism spectrum disorders. The ceremony will also honor the generosity of the Bay Health Foundation, which donated $30,000 in support of the new resource center.

ECAP is a non-profit 501(c) 3 intervention and community outreach program that provides Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services to local children diagnosed with autism. ECAP partnered with the Bay Health Foundation to establish the ECAP Parent Resource Center, which provides parents a place to go when they need help navigating the world of autism. The center allow parents to gather important information from ECAP staff, learn about local autism-related resources in our community and network with other parents via a new Autism Parent Support Group called “Parents 4 Parents.”

“When confronted with questions and concerns about their child’s development, all parents seem to investigate the same questions over and over on their own and ECAP wants to change that,” said ECAP Director Amy Polick, Ph.D. “We are excited to open our Parent Resource Center with the support of the Bay Health Foundation, and we hope to save parents endless amounts of time and stress when struggling with questions and concerns about autism. All interested parents are encouraged to get involved with the new center so that we can grow a strong autism support network in our local community.”
