Agnes Furey, Tallahassee Police Department Victim Advocate, co-founder of Achieve Higher Ground and author of “Wildflowers in the Median,” will appear speak at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 24, at the Florida State University Panama City Holley Academic Center.

After losing her daughter and grandson to homicide, Furey dealt with her grief through by traveling the country interviewing national restorative justice experts. “Restorative justice is an approach to justice that focuses on healing and restorative outcomes in the aftermath of crime,” Furey said.

It is this approach that led Furey to reach out to her daughter’s killer, Leonard Scovens, in 2005 while he served a life sentence at Florida State Prison.

“Wildflowers in the Median” tells the extraordinary story of their journey and reveals how grace can be found in the aftermath of tragedy.
