Black Student Union

Mission

The mission of the Black Student Union (BSU) is to promote leadership, academic excellence, cultural awareness, and community engagement amongst students of African descent. The BSU serves to represent Black Students with institutional administration, faculty, staff, the Student Body, and the surrounding communities.

The purposes of the BSU are to:

  • Promote and provide for the social welfare of Black students at Florida State University Panama City and Gulf Coast State College
  • Develop unity among Black students so that jointly and strongly they can express concerns and problems faced on campus
  • Create awareness to the total university community about issues relating to Black culture through its sponsorship and involvement in programs on campus
  • Provide and promote political activism, academic excellence, cultural awareness, and economic empowerment through programs, events, and activities
  • Develop leadership skills through participation in programs, events, and activities
  • Serve as a catalyst to the enlightenment of the community to the distinct and proud cultural heritage of Black people

Membership

Currently enrolled students at Florida State University and Gulf Coast State College are eligible for membership provided they remain in good standing with their institution.
