The Garnet Key Honor Society at Florida State University recognizes the high academic achievement and leadership accomplishments of students exclusively from the FSU Panama City campus. It provides a close network of students, faculty, and alumni who exemplify the utmost character, active involvement, and academic standards, and currently boasts a membership of over 1100 strong. Distinctive recognition is given to graduating members in the commencement program and at the annual Grad Gala. Additional honors are given to the graduating Undergraduate and Graduate student members with the highest grade point averages. 

History

GKHS began as a branch of the Garnet and Gold Key (Est. 1924) on the Tallahassee campus, which is the oldest and most prestigious leadership honorary at FSU (https://ggkfsu.com/), dating all the back to the Florida State College for Women before the present university was formed. The existing Garnet Key Honor Society was formed on September 26, 1986, to recognize students from this campus for outstanding leadership, service, and scholarship, as well as to promote activities to foster the progress and spirit of the FSU Panama City campus. The first induction ceremony was held on December 15, 1986, and welcomed 50 inaugural members.

Membership

Requirements for membership include a minimum of 15 credit hours completed in a degree program at FSU and a cumulative FSU GPA of 3.5 or higher. Invitations to apply are sent to potential inductees through student’s FSU email each spring term. A one-time fee of $70 is required and provides a lifetime membership in the society. 
An induction ceremony is held each spring semester to welcome new members. Inductees receive an honor cord to be worn at commencement, along with a certificate of membership, lapel pin, and T-shirt. Faculty, staff, family, and friends are invited to attend the celebration of new inductees.
