New Student Convocation

All new students must attend Convocation, which marks their entrance into the life and traditions of Florida State University. Family members and friends of new students are also invited to attend. New students will be welcomed by the President, the Provost, deans and outstanding student leaders the Sunday before fall classes begin at the Donald L. Tucker Tallahassee-Leon County Civic Center. The ceremony celebrates the history of Florida State University's academic community and calls upon students to make a commitment to live by the values embodied in the torches on the University seal: strength, skill and character.

Panama City students and their families are usually afforded the opportunity to ride a charter bus to Tallahassee the day of New Student Convocation, and a box lunch is provided.

Nearby parking is also available in FSU parking garage No. 5 at the corner of Pensacola St. and Copeland St. (free) and the Civic Center Parking lot ($8.00 fee).. The doors open at noon (Eastern Time), pre-Convocation musical entertainment will begin at 1 p.m., and the ceremony will take place from 1:30-2:30 p.m. You are encouraged to arrive early to allow time for seating and the musical entertainment.
