Dr. Azize Akcayoglu is a faculty member in Mechanical Engineering department at Florida State University Panama City. She was a tenured Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering in Mersin University, Turkey in 2012-2016. Prior to joining FSU, she taught at the Penn State University and University of North Texas. She also studied in Brunel University, London, UK as a post-doctoral researcher. Throughout her appointments, in addition to teaching basic and advanced mechanical engineering courses, she taught online, traditional, and hybrid classes, and supervised engineering and research projects of undergraduate and graduate students.

Dr. Akcayoglu has excelled in computational and experimental thermal-fluid sciences. In particular, she has developed a cutting-edge model for effective dissipation of excess heat generated in electronics systems and gas turbines. She investigated complex 3-dimensional turbulent flow-heat transfer fields interactions in heat exchangers necessary for efficient design of next-generation heating/cooling systems. One of her research focuses on bridge scour formation/development mechanisms responsible for river and highway bridge failures. She also has studies on renewable energies including solar powered race car designs. In addition, her work has advanced the understanding of hazardous gas dispersion, which occurs due to accidental release, explosions, gas or oil spills. Dr. Akcayoglu is also active in the scientific community as a peer reviewer and editorial board member for highly acclaimed journals. She obtained a “recognized reviewer award” and “outstanding reviewer award” from ELSEVIER journals in 2017. She received many grants for her scientific publications and an international research fellowship award.
