STEM Institute to host Bay District Schools fifth-graders

FSU Panama City’s STEM Institute will host 200 area fifth-grade students from Bay District Title One schools at “SURGE: Students Understanding the Research and Groundwork of Experiments” from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 28 in the FSU Panama City Holley Academic Center.

While on campus, students will view projects from the Three Rivers Science Fair, learn about STEM careers and interact with STEM professionals and students. They will work with Music and Math with the Bay Arts Alliance, learn the Physics of Paper Airplanes with Embry Riddle Aeronautical University and Island Air Express and study the Geometry of Origami with Gulf Coast State College. The Electrical Engineering Department at FSU Panama City will present Circuits and Safety, and NSWCPCD will bring the Science Brothers and Catapults.

With the assistance of FSU elementary education students, students will rotate among activities that reinforce Florida State Standards
